Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke with Britain's King Charles III, talking over "a number of subjects of mutual interest" besides exchanging greetings on the upcoming festive occasions of Christmas and the New Year.
"It was a pleasure to speak with HM King Charles III today. Reaffirmed commitment to bolster India-UK ties. Exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including the Commonwealth, climate action and sustainability. Wished him good health and wellbeing," PM Modi posted on X after the phone call.
The PMO revealed that the British monarch and PM Modi recalled historic relations between two countries and reaffirmed commitment to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the United Kingdom.
"They exchanged views on Commonwealth of Nations and the recently held Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa. Discussion took place on a number of subjects of mutual interest that included Climate Action and sustainability. Prime Minister appreciated the sustained advocacy and initiatives his Majesty has taken on these matters and apprised his Majesty on the multi-tasking initiatives undertaken by India.Prime Minister wished well of the King for his good health and well being, and conveyed this to His Majesty," stated the PMO in its statement.
Earlier this year, the Prime Minister Modi had wished speedy recovery and good health on behalf of himself and all people of India to King Charles.
In response to a post on X by the Royal Family informing the world of the King suffering from some form of cancer, the Prime Minister on February 6 posted: "I join the people of India in wishing speedy recovery and good health to His Majesty King Charles III."
The two dignitaries had also discussed the Covid-19 pandemic during their phone conversation in April 2020.
Then, Prime Minister Modi had expressed his sadness over the death toll of Covid in the UK and had said that he was relieved to see that Prince Charles - who had not yet ascended the throne then - had come out of his recent illness.
He acknowledged the Indian diaspora members in the UK, where many members of the National Health Service were instrumental in fighting the pandemic. In addition, he mentioned the selfless work of the religious and social organizations of the Indian community in the UK while thanking the Prime Minister for facilitation and help extended for the UK citizens stuck in India during the crisis.
Both dignitaries have also discussed Ayurveda with PM Modi explaining Indian initiatives aimed at teaching basic yoga exercises through short animation videos, and disseminating easy home-made traditional remedies for enhancing immunity during the Covid pandemic.
