During his two-day Mauritius visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a series of symbolic presents to the nation's President, Dharam Gokhool, and his wife.
Among these, he gifted the President holy Gangajal from the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, nicely packed in a brass and copper vessel, alongside Bihar's superfood, Makhana.
For the First Lady of Mauritius, on the other hand, PM Modi gifted a stunning Banarasi saree, which represents India's rich cultural heritage.
The beautiful Banarasi saree, presented in a classic Sadeli box, hails from Varanasi and is known for its rich silk, tasteful brocade work, and rich zari motifs. The PM Modi-aided saree comes in a royal blue color, adorned with silver zari patterns, a wide zari border, and an elaborate pallu woven—perfect for use on grand events such as weddings and festivals. The Sadeli box, made in Gujarat with fine inlay work, is a beautiful storage facility for sarees, jewelry, or precious mementos.
Earlier during the day, PM Modi had a meeting with his Mauritius counterpart, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, and the two leaders planted a sapling together at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden. This gesture represented their mutual commitment to sustainability and a greener world.
Expressing gratitude for this moment, PM Modi went to X and posted:
"Honoured by the warm gesture of my friend, Prime Minister Dr Navin Ramgoolam, in participating in 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'—a tribute to nature, motherhood, and sustainability."
PM Modi was given a grand welcome on his arrival in Mauritius, his first visit to the island nation in almost a decade—his last official visit having been in 2015.
