Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, reiterated his government's commitment to ensuring comprehensive security measures for Chinese nationals employed throughout the nation. This statement comes in the wake of a tragic incident where five Chinese workers lost their lives in a suicide bombing in the northwest region of the country.
Addressing a group of Chinese engineers and workers at the Dasu Hydropower Project site in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sharif expressed solidarity with the affected individuals. He pledged unwavering efforts to guarantee the safety of Chinese citizens and their families, emphasizing the government's determination to leave no stone unturned in this regard.
In response to the March 26 attack, Sharif vowed to pursue exemplary punishment for the perpetrators, aiming to deter any future occurrences of such heinous acts. Authorities have already made significant progress in apprehending those involved, with 12 individuals, including the mastermind, already in custody.
Although no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Counter-Terrorism Department has attributed it to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Prime Minister Sharif condemned the incident as the work of enemies seeking to undermine the strong bond between Pakistan and China.
During his visit, Sharif conveyed condolences to the Chinese community and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to their security. He highlighted the swift response of his government, including the establishment of a joint investigation team and enhanced security measures in collaboration with provincial authorities.
Echoing Sharif's sentiments, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong expressed gratitude for Pakistan's solidarity and reassurance of security. He emphasized the readiness of both nations to strengthen their strategic partnership.
The gathering paid tribute to the victims with a moment of silence, underscoring the collective resolve to combat terrorism and preserve the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China. The presence of federal ministers, Chinese company representatives, and senior officials underscored the significance of the occasion in reaffirming bilateral cooperation and mutual support.
