Pakistan Army's Lt General Muhammad Asim Malik, who has had top commands in the restive Balochistan province and terrorism-hit Waziristan, has been appointed the new chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), it was announced on Monday.
Lt Gen Malik is the current Adjutant General at the General Headquarters and will assume the position of the country's top spymaster following the departure of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum; he will join duty on September 30, according to the ISPR.
The statement further says that Lt Gen Malik has already experience as a commander of the Balochistan infantry division and infantry brigade in Waziristan.
A Sword of Honour recipient in his course, Lt Gen Malik also has the distinction of having served as the chief instructor at the National Defence University and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College, Quetta.
He is also a graduate of Fort Leavenworth, United States, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in London.
