Sheikh Rashid, the chief of Awami Muslim League (AML), found himself in custody in Rawalpindi as a court rejected his bail plea in connection with the May 9 violence case. Rawalpindi police apprehended him outside the court premises after the dismissal of his bail application in the case filed against him at the New Town Police station related to the incidents of violence.
The charges stem from a series of events on May 9 when a group of PTI supporters engaged in aggressive actions, targeting military installations and public properties. These actions unfolded following the arrest of former PTI chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The protesters, in their violent spree, attacked the residence of Lahore Corps Commander, GHQ, and the Radio Pakistan office in Peshawar, among other locations. Their primary demand was the release of the former prime minister.
In the aftermath of the attacks, law enforcement initiated a crackdown against those implicated in the May 9 violence. Various PTI leaders and workers were booked in cases across different cities as part of the police response to the incidents.
