On Thursday, the Pakistan Army said former spymaster Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed was facing court martial proceedings "based on concrete evidence" but remained non-committal about the action against former prime minister Imran Khan under army regulations.
In a press conference in Rawalpindi, Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry further promised a fair trial to Hameed and termed his court martial as an example of the military's self-accountability.
After a thorough investigation based on conclusive evidence, the Pakistan Army categorically conveyed on August 12, 2024 that the concerned officer (Hameed) had committed a breach of sections under the Army Act," said Chaudhry.
Asked if the party leaders were afraid that Khan may be handed over to the army or proceeded against under the army laws with the court martial proceeding against Hameed in full swing, he avoided a direct reply.
