EU sanctions China for rights abuses against Uighurs
In the last few years, hundreds of Uighurs, Kazakhs and Huis have testified about being held in internment camps as part of what observers say is a government campaign to forcibly assimilate ethnic minorities. The last time the EU imposed punitive measures on Beijing for human rights violations was after the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989.
EU to sanction 11 involved in Myanmar coup

AstraZeneca Covid vax found 79% effective in US trial
The results come after several countries in Europe briefly suspended the use of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine over fears of harmful side effects. In the US trial, the vaccine was well-tolerated, and the independent data safety monitoring board (DSMB) identified no safety concerns related to the vaccine, AstraZeneca said.
Global Covid-19 caseload tops 123.1 mn
In its latest update on Monday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 123,135,920 and 2,714,606, respectively. The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 29,818,157 and 542,356, respectively, according to the CSSE.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan isolates after testing Covid positive
Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination confirmed the development on Saturday. Sultan said that the 68-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician has quarantined himself at home. "PM Imran Khan has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating at home," Sultan said in a tweet.
Pakistan to object on 2 Indian hydroelectric plant

The Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS) Covid-19 subcommittee met virtually on March 16-19 to review available information and data on thromboembolic events (blood clots) and thrombocytopenia (low platelets) after vaccination with the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. The subcommittee reviewed clinical trial data and reports based on safety data from Europe, the UK, India, and Vigibase, the WHO global database of individual case safety reports.
