Global Covid-19 caseload tops 178mn

In its latest update on Sunday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 178,119,063 and 3,857,719, respectively. The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 33,536,904 and 601,721, respectively, according to the CSSE.
Third wave of Covid 'definitely under way' in UK: Scientist

Acknowledging the recent surge in infections, Finn told the BBC: "Perhaps we can be a little bit optimistic it's not going up any faster, but nevertheless it's going up -- so this third wave is definitely underway."
Footprints of last dinosaurs walked 110M years ago in UK found

The discovery of dinosaur footprints by a curator from Hastings Museum and Art Gallery and a scientist from the University of Portsmouth is the last record of dinosaurs in Britain. The footprints were discovered in the cliffs and on the foreshore in Folkestone, Kent, where stormy conditions affect the cliff and coastal waters.
Taliban attack on Afghan city repulsed

The militants were also attempting to explode an explosive-laden military vehicle next to a military base outside Kunduz city, but was identified and targeted by soldiers. As a result a few more militants inside the vehicle were killed, the official added. However, five security personnel had been injured during the gunfight which lasted for a couple of hours, he said.

Indian-origin Judge nominated to Canada SC

Indian-origin Justice Mahmud Jamal has been elevated from the Court of Appeal for Ontario where he has served since 2019. Justice Jamal was born in 1967 in Nairobi where his family had migrated from India a generation earlier. The family later moved to the UK in 1969. He came to Canada in 1981 with his family and studied at the University of Toronto for his degree before going to McGill University and then Yale University to study law.
