The Foreign Ministry stated Sri Lanka was deeply concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and was closely monitoring the development. "Our primary concern is the safety and security of Sri Lankans living in Afghanistan and evacuating them to safety or back to Sri Lanka," said the Foreign Ministry and requested the support of India, the US, the UK, Pakistan and the United Nations to evacuate Sri Lankans in Afghanistan.

According to the spokesman, the delegation told the attendees about the future of the "Islamic Emirate", the name of Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

Media reports say the viral images also include Taliban co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Sheikh Abdul Hakim, who is the group's former shadow chief justice. This development comes at a time when reports suggest that Pakistan will be the first guest country of the Taliban-captured Afghanistan.
