General Assembly approves UN regular budget for 2022
The 2022 budget is slightly lower than that of the previous year, reports Xinhua news agency. The regular budget covers UN activities across a range of areas, including political affairs, international justice and law, regional cooperation for development, human rights and humanitarian affairs, and public information.
Japanese govt approves record defense budget for 2022 with 10th straight annual increase
Japan's defence spending, in 2022, is pegged at 5.4 trillion yen ($47.18 billion) which is 1.1% higher than the previous year. However, it is still less than a quarter of China's military budget this year, according to official Beijing data. In view of the intense regional security environment, the decision to strengthen Japan's defence capability was taken by former Japan PM Yoshihide Suga when he met US President Joe Biden in April this year.

UN considering $8 billion economic package for Afghanistan
The amount of money that is supposed to be given to Afghanistan in 2022 will be spent to deliver various services in the war-torn country. The package is aimed at providing healthy food for children in schools, creating job opportunities, paying off electricity debts of Afghanistan to central Asian countries, and rebuilding governance beyond humanitarian aids in the country, the report said.
UN extends exemption of travel ban on Afghan Taliban leaders
In its announcement on Friday, the UNSC said that the ban, which came into force on Wednesday, will last until March 21, 2022, TOLO News reported. Besides Baradar, there are 14 other Taliban members on the ban list, including Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. "The travel ban exemption is solely for travels required for participation in peace and stability discussions in a range of countries," TOLO News quoted the UNSC as saying in its announcement.
