Plane carrying 132 people crashes in China

A China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737, carrying 132 people on board, crashed on Monday in a mountainous area of the country's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to emergency officials. Flight MU5735 took off from Kunming at 1.11 p.m. (local time) and was scheduled to arrive in Guangzhou at 3.05 p.m.

The vaccine programme is timely as official figures show Covid infection is rising in all age groups, including the over-70s. Xi Jinping doesn't believe democracy can be sustained in 21st century: Joe Biden

“I think we're in a genuine struggle between autocracies and democracies and whether or not democracies can be sustained,” Biden said. He further said that his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping does not believe that democracy is an efficient form of governance and hence cannot be sustained in the 21st century. This is because, President Biden added, as per his Chinese counterpart democracies cannot arrive at a consensus on critical factors like rapidly evolving technologies.
Covid not gone, expect uptick in cases due to BA.2 subvariant: Fauci

Fauci said that the BA.2 subvariant is estimated to account for about 25 or 30% of new cases in the US, and could also become the most dominant variant in the country, CNBC reported. While Fauci said he expects a rise in cases, it will not necessarily result in a massive surge like other variants have caused. According to Fauci, who is also the White House chief medical advisor, BA.2 subvariant is about 50 to 60% more transmissible than Omicron, yet it does not appear to be more severe.
