Biden to visit Uvalde to mourn school shooting victims
The President and the First Lady will "grieve with the community that lost 21 lives in the horrific elementary school shooting", the White House announced on Thursday. The gunman, identified as 18-year-old Uvalde High School student Salvador Rolando Ramos, was killed by responding officers after the attack on Tuesday.
Countries attempting to isolate Russia only hurt themselves: Putin
While addressing the plenary session of the First Eurasian Economic Forum on Thursday, Putin said it would simply be unfeasible and impossible to isolate Russia, and "those, who aspire to do so would harm themselves the most", reports Xinhua news agency. The President noted that the current state of the global economy demonstrates that Russia's position is right and justified, as opposed to the countries, which are trying to "pursue short-sighted policies".

UN Security Council renews mandate of UN mission for Iraq
Resolution 2631, which won the unanimous support of the 15 members of the council, requests the UN secretary-general's special representative and UNAMI, at the request of the Iraqi government, to prioritise the provision of advice, support, and assistance on advancing inclusive, political dialogue and national and community-level reconciliation, Xinhua news agency reported.
US confirms 9 monkeypox cases
"These cases were suspected by local clinicians. They were identified by local laboratories and triggered local public health action to help with treatment and management of any potential contacts," CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said at a press briefing. The nine cases have been identified in California, Florida, Massachusetts, New York, Utah, Virginia and Washington state, Xinhua news agency reported.

Myanmar bans use of foreign currency for local payments
The bank asked government agencies to pay with only Myanmar kyat, saying the use of foreign currencies for domestic payments could lead to higher demand for dollars and cause exchange rate instability, reports Xinhua news agency.
