Joe Biden should consider pulling out of US presidential race: Barack Obama

According to the Washington Post, Obama told Biden that the electoral path had been narrowing and that he seriously needs to reconsider his candidacy. It reportedly is the latest undertaking in a series of similar messages being conveyed to Biden, 81, as unease grows within the Democratic Party about his candidacy.

Reports coming in from the last few days have shown that former US President Barack Obama and ex-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also contacted President Joe Biden to indicate an overwhelming decline in the president's chances against Republican arch-rival Donald Trump. According to sources, quoting media reports on Thursday, this assessment portends dire implications not only for Biden's presidential quest but other Congressional and Senatorial races as well.

Doubts over the viability of his campaign were further fanned by Biden's recent misfortunes at the debate with Trump on June 27 and, more recently, his COVID-19 diagnosis that forced him to go into isolation in Delaware. On the other hand, Trump's popularity, resilient after an assassination attempt and further steered by his defiance, has done much to bump his electoral standing, as recent polls indicate Biden trailing.

It's with this type of data-driven political analysis that Obama shared his observations, warning of a worrisome shift away from Biden in the polls and an expanding electoral path for Trump, and a dwindling donor support base for the incumbent president.

But despite all these, according to the Biden-Harris campaign, it has not entertained any consideration whatsoever of making Vice President Kamala Harris replace Joe Biden. Quentin Fulks said Tuesday that Mr. Biden was irrevocably their party's nominee, dispelling rumors of other scenarios.

Moreover, according to reports from both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, Pelosi has talked to people about the dimmed electoral prospects of President Biden and how that could affect other Democratic races. Top Democratic leaders, including Congressman Adam Schiff, issued warnings regarding possible down-ballot losses and called for strategic reassessment.

In other words, while there are still bumps on the campaign trail for Biden, Democratic leaders, from these developments, are treading carefully to ensure electoral competitiveness in multiple races heading into November.
