JD Vance Acknowledges South Asian Contributions in Acceptance Address

J.D. Vance delivered an acceptance speech after winning the Republican party vice presidential nomination on Tuesday, in which he lauded South Asian people and their values, many of which his wife Usha Vance comes from India. "I am married to the daughter of South Asian immigrants to this country, incredible people who have enriched this nation in numerous ways," Vance said in the speech, delivered Wednesday evening. In the process, he tackled one of the most divisive issues of the day: immigration, still a core tenet of former President Donald Trump's platform for re-election, and Trump's opposition to illegal migrants.

In the process, he tackled one of the most divisive issues of the day: immigration, still a core tenet of former President Donald Trump's platform for re-election, and Trump's opposition to illegal migrants.

Speaking to a friendly crowd that erupted in applause and cheers almost every time he delved into his populist touch in words spoken at the kitchen table, Vance went through comparisons of his own life and the economic policies that President Joe Biden is currently pushing for. Vance, whose initials stand for JD, provided the audience with this account of his life in which he was raised by his grandmother, which took place in Middletown, Ohio, as a result of his mother's drug addiction. Having joined the Marine Corps on the heels of the 9/11 attacks, he later attended college under the aegis of a military scholarship and went on to Yale Law School, where he graduated and opened a boutique venture capital company. This resulted in his winning the election to the United States Senate from Ohio in 2022.

JD Vance was brought to the stage at the GOP convention, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by Usha Vance, who was born in San Diego and raised by immigrant Indian parents. She talked about their contrasting stories, emphasizing her husband's openness and inquisitive nature about her background and parents. "JD was interested in our diversity and even managed to live with my vegetarian diet, adopting a bit of Indian cooking to please his in-laws," she shared warmly. "Our journey together is testimony to JD's character and to the opportunities that one has in this great country."
