Amidst speculations, there's growing discourse about potential Russian involvement, considering Russia's potential provision of military technology in exchange for North Korean military supplies, particularly during Russia's ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

South Korea previously examined debris from the failed attempts, concluding that the satellite had no discernible military utility. However, within a short span, North Korea declared the successful launch of its purported first spy satellite and pledged to launch more swiftly to bolster its reconnaissance capabilities.

South Korean military officials and intelligence have suggested the possibility of Russian technical support to North Korea. This speculation follows a summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin in September, where Putin hinted at assistance regarding satellite development.

Defence Minister Shin Won-sik implied Russian collaboration in overcoming satellite engine issues during a recent media interview.

Reports also suggest a transfer of an 80-tonne liquid fuel engine from Russia to North Korea before the summit, with indications of Russian engineers entering North Korea post-summit.

While South Korea and the US haven't confirmed the launch's success pending detailed analysis, experts note that a successful launch could significantly enhance North Korea's surveillance capabilities towards South Korea.
