It was during New York City's Independence Day celebrations that Mayor Eric Adams commented, "New York City is the New Delhi of America," thereby acknowledging what the Indian diaspora has done for this city. Speaking at the flag-raising ceremony held in Bowling Green, Adams said, "This is the oldest democracy, so we should be proud to raise this flag high in New York City democracy, and I call on the community to continue inspiring and achieving at the highest levels.

The Indian flag-hoisting ceremony was part of many functions that included several city officials and Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi, the first Indian-American to hold that office.

Adams paid homage to the Indian community, saying, "When you look at the number of professional business owners, health professionals in the medical field, educators, teachers, it shows the clear presence of the Indian community. You do us so proud here in this city and in our entire country.".

Adams reflected on his trip to India and time at Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi, where Mahatma Gandhi made the final steps before his assassination, and he noted, "We have a responsibility and obligation to continue those footsteps, we have to fulfill what he thought we should do as we lift up humanity."

Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan reflected on 78 years of India's journey, saying, "If President Joe Biden says that this is the most consequential partnership of the 21st century, we in India echo that. We believe that it has reached a point of inflection."

Another flag-hoisting ceremony was also organized at the Times Square, where the Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, was present.

On the eve of Independence Day, India's Consulate General observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day through a photo exhibition based on the theme. Margherita referred to the survivors of the period as being resilient and brave, who had coped with the traumas of atrocities against them and built their lives anew.
