Nepal President dissolves Parliament, announces mid-term general election in April-May 2021

The announcement came after Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, earlier in the day, recommended dissolution of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament at an emergency Cabinet meeting. The recommendation to dissolve the House came two years prior to its term.

Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Sunday dissolved the country's Parliament and announced new dates for the mid-term general election in April-May next year, news agency PTI reported.

The announcement came after Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, earlier in the day, recommended dissolution of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament at an emergency Cabinet meeting. The recommendation to dissolve the House came two years prior to its term.

According to the notice issued by the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the first phase of the mid-term election will be held on April 30 while the second phase will take place on May 10.

The notice further said that the President dissolved Parliament as per Article 76, clause 1 and 7, and Article 85 of the Constitution of Nepal.

In 2017, the general election for 275-member House of Representatives was held.
