NATO Set for Largest Military Drills in Decades to Enhance Collective Defense

NATO is gearing up for its most extensive exercise in decades, with a staggering 90,000 forces slated to partake, according to NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Christopher Cavoli. The upcoming exercise, named "Exercise Steadfast Defender 2024," is set to kick off next week and will span through May. 

All 31 NATO member countries, along with Sweden, are expected to actively engage in these maneuvers. Cavoli shared this information during a press briefing in Brussels after a two-day NATO Military Chiefs of Defence meeting, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Addressing the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Rob Bauer, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, provided insights, stating that there is a "back and forth in the front" and that "Both sides are now in a phase where it is not moving a lot forward one way or the other." 

The situation remains dynamic, and the Exercise Steadfast Defender 2024 comes at a critical juncture, reflecting NATO's commitment to maintaining readiness and collective defense among its member nations.
