Moscow and Washington have made a deal regarding joint steps to ensure the unbroken financing of diplomatic missions in both countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Russian and US delegations met in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday to hold talks.
The closed-door talks were conducted at the US Consulate General and lasted over six hours, according to reports by Xinhua news agency.
On Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the negotiations were aimed at resolving several long-standing problems in bilateral relations.
"Joint measures were agreed upon to provide for the unobstructed financing of the activities of the Russian and American diplomatic missions on a mutual basis, and to establish the necessary conditions for diplomats to carry out their official duties," the statement said.
Leading the Russian delegation was Alexander Darchiev, the director of the North Atlantic Department, and the American delegation was headed by Sonata Coulter, deputy assistant secretary of state for US policy towards Russia and Central Europe.
The ministry observed that, following the guidance of their respective Foreign Ministers, both sides comprehensively explored the possibilities of settling some of the "irritants" that had lingered from past US administrations.
Moreover, the Russian delegation raised issues related to its diplomatic premises in the US, including six real estate properties that it asserts were "illegally confiscated" between 2016 and 2018.
Russia also proposed that Washington consider resuming direct flights between the two countries and stressed the need for making tangible progress that could help enhance the bilateral relations for mutual gain.
The ministry stated that the two sides also committed to continue with diplomatic contacts.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, speaking on Friday, said that the officials in Istanbul had "agreed on joint steps to ensure the uninterrupted financing of diplomatic missions in both countries and to create appropriate conditions for diplomats to carry out their duties effectively."
The past decade has been marked by tensions in relations between Russia and the United States as both nations consistently expelled each other's diplomats, resulting in severe cuts to embassy personnel.
