Kremlin Dismisses Peace Initiatives on Ukraine Excluding Russia as 'Absurd'

Peskov's statements followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's comments during his annual press conference on Tuesday.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has dismissed the idea of peace proposals on the Ukraine crisis that exclude Russia, deeming such initiatives as "absurd" and lacking any foundation for meaningful negotiations with Kiev. Speaking on Wednesday, Peskov emphasized that the topic of negotiations is presently irrelevant, reiterating that there is no basis or groundwork for such discussions.

Peskov's statements followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's comments during his annual press conference on Tuesday. Zelensky remarked that the issue of negotiations is not currently pertinent, highlighting that the only viable platform for addressing the key principles of peace in Ukraine is the Peace Formula. This 10-point plan was proposed by the Ukrainian President in November 2022.

In rejecting the notion of peace talks excluding Russia, Peskov argued that any attempt to formulate a peace plan without the involvement of Russia would be an "absurd process" destined to yield no meaningful results. The Kremlin continues to emphasize the importance of its participation in any discussions aimed at resolving the Ukraine crisis.
