Kremlin: Changes in Russia's Nuclear Doctrine Intended to 'Signal' Western States

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the country has the right to use nuclear weapons in case of aggression, said Putin during a Security Council meeting on nuclear deterrence Wednesday.

Any shift in Russia's nuclear doctrine would serve as a warning to Western countries, local media said Thursday, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the country has the right to use nuclear weapons in case of aggression, said Putin during a Security Council meeting on nuclear deterrence Wednesday.

"This is a signal, which is a sort of a warning for these countries regarding the consequences of an attack on our country through various means, not necessarily nuclear," Peskov said, Xinhua news agency reported.
Russia's nuclear deterrence policy in itself is undergoing adjustments due to increased tensions along its borders, Peskov said.
