Jaishankar Advocates Two-State Resolution for Israel-Palestine Conflict

Speaking at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) during his three-day visit to Singapore, Jaishankar responded to inquiries following a lecture on his book 'Why Bharat Matters.' When asked about India's perspective on the situation in Israel and Palestine, given its amicable relations with both sides, Jaishankar emphasized the necessity of condemning terrorism unequivocally, citing the events of October 7th of the previous year as an example.

The External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, emphasized the importance of a two-state solution to resolve the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. He mentioned that significant efforts are underway to achieve a lasting resolution, although he refrained from divulging further details publicly. Jaishankar expressed India's strong support for the collaborative efforts of certain countries aiming to address the current situation effectively.

Addressing Israel's subsequent response, Jaishankar stressed India's stance on minimizing civilian casualties and respecting humanitarian principles. Despite mounting international pressure for a ceasefire, Israel has committed to continuing its actions.

Jaishankar acknowledged the immediate need for sustained humanitarian aid to the affected civilian population. However, he emphasized the importance of addressing the broader, long-term issue and reiterated India's support for a two-state solution as the path towards a lasting resolution.

Additionally, Jaishankar discussed India's approach to managing its relationships with both Israel and Palestine, highlighting the country's commitment to fostering constructive dialogue and peaceful coexistence in the region.
