The Israeli military says more than 20 Hezbollah militants of varying ranks were killed in the strikes it carried out in Beirut, in which the group's top leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, was also assassinated.
Other killers identified included Ibrahim Hussein Jazini, head of Nasrallah's security unit, and Samir Tawfiq Deeb, a longtime adviser to Nasrallah. Abd al-Amir Muhammad Sablini controlled Hezbollah's force build-up while Ali Naaf Ayoub was in charge of firepower for Hezbollah.
They were located in the central headquarters of Hezbollah in the south suburbs of the Lebanese capital when strikes hit, flattening a multi-storey building, Xinhua news agency reported.
Israel resumed its pounding of Lebanon with further airstrikes throughout the day in Beirut and the airport region, targeting Hezbollah's chemical industry expert according to Israeli state-owned Kan TV news.
The military indicated that its fighter jets also pounded southern Lebanon, hitting rocket launchers aimed at Israeli territory, weapons storage facilities, and Hezbollah infrastructure sites. It emphasized that warplanes launched new attacks on 45 sites in the Kafra area of southern Lebanon to attack the group's weapons storage facilities.
The military said Hezbollah fired about 10 rockets toward the western Galilee and Haamakim areas in northern Israel, some of which were intercepted.
