Speaking to mediapersons in a briefing on Tuesday, Hanegbi said the Israeli army is taking a defensive posture in Lebanon not to over stretch its forces as it is in the middle of a waging a war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Economy Minister Nir Barka warned that it would “eliminate Hezbollah” if it follows through on threats to throw its military support behind Hamas, reports The New York Post.

However, it is also facing strong opposition from the US not to attack Hezbollah in Lebanon, which fears a two-front war will risk igniting a major regional conflict, The Guardian reported.

"Is the Lebanese state really willing to jeopardise what is left of Lebanese prosperity and Lebanese sovereignty for the sake of terrorists in Gaza?" Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus wrote on X on Sunday.  

The US recognises that Israel must respond to the increased targeting of its northern border by Hezbollah since the shock Hamas onslaught on October 7 in which over 1,400 Israelis were killed, the officials clarified.

Professor Justin Bronk said that if Iran attacks Israel in retaliation for invading Gaza, Moscow and Beijing will be compelled to step in and the war could escalate.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told reporters in Beirut that Lebanon’s Hezbollah group has taken all the scenarios of a war into consideration, and Israel should stop its attacks on Gaza immediately, Al Jazeera reported.
