The deceased soldiers have been identified as Major Isachar Nathan (28) from Kiryat Malachi and Staff Sgt Itay Shoham (21) from Rosh Hayin. Both were members of the elite Commando Brigade unit of the IDF and lost their lives during confrontations with Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.

As part of the ongoing ground operation, the Israeli army has successfully reached the center of Gaza and is poised to capture various strategic points held by Hamas, including command centers of the terrorist organization.

The IDF has encountered significant challenges due to the extensive network of underground tunnels in the Gaza Strip, numbering approximately 1,300, according to the Israeli army. These tunnels have proven to be a major obstacle in the military's efforts against Hamas.
