Israeli Cabinet ministers have been informed that the planned counter-attack against Iran will go ahead "very soon," according to state media.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed early October that his country would retaliate after Iran launched around 180 ballistic missiles toward Israel on October 1, responding to the assassinations of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut. However, the timing of the Israeli attack remained unclear.
Israel's government has confirmed that an attack on Iran will be "very soon" and "significant", according to Xinhua news agency, citing Israel's state-owned Kan TV. The report comes just hours after the US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense anti-ballistic missile defense system would be deployed in Israel, along with nearly 100 US troops who will be operating it.
Iran had just threatened to retaliate against any attack by Israel using missiles, after a reported hit on some of Iran's nuclear sites and energy infrastructure US President Joe Biden called on Israel to show restraint, to avoid a larger Middle East war.
