Israel Expresses 'Regret' Over Jordan's Move to Recall Envoy

"Israel regrets the Jordanian government's decision to recall its ambassador for consultations.

In response to Jordan's decision to recall its ambassador to Israel in the midst of the ongoing conflict, Israel expressed regret over the move but emphasized its focus on the conflict initiated by what they referred to as a "murderous terrorist attack by Hamas," according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

"Israel regrets the Jordanian government's decision to recall its ambassador for consultations. The State of Israel is focused on the war imposed on it by the murderous terrorist attack by Hamas, a terrorist organization that massacred 1,400 Israelis and kidnapped 240 women, children, babies, and the elderly," said Ministry spokesperson Lior Haiat in a post on X late Wednesday night.

Haiat added, "Israel is targeting the terrorists of Hamas and the terrorist infrastructure of this organization, which uses the civilians of the Gaza Strip as human shields."

Earlier on Wednesday, Jordan recalled its ambassador from Israel as a protest against the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza, as stated by the Foreign Ministry in Amman.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi noted that he had informed the Israeli foreign ministry not to send back its ambassador, who had already left Jordan. He mentioned that the return of ambassadors would depend on Israel's cessation of its operations in Gaza, the alleviation of the humanitarian crisis, and the restoration of essential rights for Palestinians.

Safadi emphasized Jordan's commitment to working towards ending the conflict in Gaza, providing humanitarian assistance, protecting civilians, and safeguarding the region from its consequences.

Furthermore, Jordan reiterated its call for a comprehensive and just peace between Palestine and Israel based on the two-state solution, which would guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 border.

It's worth noting that Jordan's decision came shortly after Chile and Colombia also recalled their envoys to Israel in response to the continued bombardment of Gaza. Bolivia went a step further by severing diplomatic ties with Israel, citing "crimes against humanity committed against the Palestinian people."
