At least two individuals were killed and 34 others were injured after residential homes in Israel were hit by ballistic missiles on Saturday, as tensions between Iran and Israel escalate.
Magen David Adom (MDA), the emergency medical response organization, confirmed the deaths and the severity of the injuries following the most recent wave of missile attacks fired from Iran.
In accordance with MDA, the missile attacks resulted in widespread devastation and panic throughout hit zones, which led to emergency crews providing life-saving care and transporting injured people to nearby hospitals.
"MDA teams administered life-saving medical care and evacuated 21 wounded individuals to Wolfson, Sheba Tel Hashomer, and Shamir-Assaf Harofeh hospitals. Among those wounded: a woman approximately 60 was rescued without vital signs, a man approximately 45 was evacuated in serious condition during CPR and later declared dead, a woman approximately 60 was seriously hurt, two individuals were moderately hurt, and 16 experienced minor injuries due to blast trauma and shrapnel," the agency stated in an official release.
The company also reported that some of those suffering from extreme anxiety caused by the attack were evacuated and treated.
In another missile attack on the Gush Dan region, MDA crews responded to another batch of 34 wounded, who were treated and transferred to hospitals.
Among those hurt were a female about 60 in critical condition, taken to Beilinson Hospital; a man of 65 in serious condition, brought to Sheba Medical Center; a woman in her 50s and a man about 50, both moderately injured and admitted to Sheba and Ichilov hospitals respectively. Thirty more people suffered light injuries, most of them from the explosion and shrapnel. Thirteen others were attended to for anxiety-related symptoms.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have verified that Iran has fired another missile barrage, greatly increasing the already tense situation.
Due to the continued threat, the IDF Home Front Command instructed residents that while it is now safe to vacate bomb shelters, they should remain nearby as a precaution. Air raid sirens and emergency alerts remain in effect in various areas around the country.
This recent uptick in missile attacks highlights the escalating crisis between Israel and Iran, after weeks of increasing tensions and belligerent rhetoric.
Israeli officials have thus increased the country's alert status by deploying more security personnel to major cities and strategic points.
Government and national emergency services are still under full alert as the security situation continues to evolve.
