Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi told reporters Iran's reaction to the assassination of Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh would be "precise, calculated and managed."
Araghchi told reporters in a briefing Saturday, following a series of recent conversations he had with his German, French and British counterparts over what he called a "terrorist action" by Israel against Haniyeh, according to the Iranian Students' News Agency, ISNA.
He asserted the right of Iran to retaliate against Israel for the assassination, saying that Israel's "aggression" concerning Iran's national security and sovereignty would not go unpunished. Araghchi said the reaction of Tehran to this would be "precise and calculated," taking into consideration every aspect of the situation, according to the ISNA news agency.
The report, also carried by Xinhua news agency, said Araghchi pointed out that the retaliation would be made "at the right time and using the appropriate method."
Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, was killed along with his bodyguard on July 31 when their residence was attacked. Iran has attributed the attack to Israel and has promised a strong counteraction.
Israel has neither denied nor confirmed the act.
