As of February 4, Indian tourists can now visit Iran without the need for a visa, as per a statement released by the Embassy of Iran. Under this new policy, individuals holding ordinary passports can enter Iran once every six months for a maximum duration of 15 days, solely for tourism purposes.
It's important to highlight that the 15-day stay cannot be extended beyond the allotted period, as clarified in the statement. However, this visa-free entry provision is exclusively applicable to tourists and does not extend to individuals traveling to Iran for business or educational reasons, who must apply for visas under the respective categories.
Furthermore, if Indian tourists plan to visit Iran multiple times within the six-month timeframe, they will be required to obtain a visa for subsequent visits. Additionally, the visa-free entry is limited to those arriving in Iran by air. Travelers entering via land routes, such as through Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, or neighboring countries, must obtain a visa in advance.
Iran's decision to waive visa requirements for Indian visitors aligns with recent similar moves by countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, aiming to facilitate travel and enhance tourism ties between nations.
