In a recent maritime rescue operation, the Indian warship INS Kolkata demonstrated its prowess by swiftly responding to a distress call in the Gulf of Aden. The vessel, part of maritime security operations in the region, came to the aid of the crew of the Barbados-flagged cargo vessel MV True Confidence.
Following a missile strike on the cargo vessel, resulting in a fire, the crew was forced to abandon ship. INS Kolkata reached the scene promptly, deploying its integral helicopter and boats to rescue the 21 crew members, including an Indian national, who had taken refuge on a life raft.
The Navy's spokesperson, Commander Vivek Madhwal, highlighted the timely arrival of INS Kolkata and the critical medical assistance provided to the injured crew members. The injured personnel were promptly attended to by the ship's medical team.
After the successful rescue operation, the crew, including the critically injured, were evacuated to Djibouti by INS Kolkata. This operation underscores the Indian Navy's commitment to ensuring maritime safety and security in the region.
