The tragic loss of 26-year-old Aaditya Adlakha, a doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati, in a shooting incident on the Western Hills Viaduct in Ohio has deeply impacted the community.
Adlakha was driving when his vehicle was struck multiple times in a gunfire outbreak earlier this month. The police discovered him inside the vehicle, which had collided with a wall, with at least three bullet holes visible on the driver's side window. Despite being taken to UC Medical Center immediately after the shooting, Adlakha passed away on November 11.
No arrests have been made yet, and authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
A dedicated student enrolled in the College of Medicine's Molecular and Developmental Biology Graduate Program, Adlakha was set to complete his doctorate by 2025. Hailing from New Delhi, he held a bachelor's degree in zoology from Ramjas College and a master's degree in physiology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 2020.
Dean Andrew Filak of the College of Medicine remembered Adlakha as a bright, kind, and witty individual whose research was groundbreaking and impactful. The University of Cincinnati mourns his loss and encourages everyone to support each other while remembering Adlakha as a cherished friend, student, and colleague.
Adlakha had received recognition from the university for his research on ulcerative colitis, demonstrating his dedication and contributions to his field.
The incident is part of an unfortunate trend, with city government figures reporting 305 recorded shooting incidents as of November 15, highlighting the broader challenge of gun violence in the region.
