India's outgoing ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, addressed a virtual gathering of eminent Indian Americans, emphasizing the importance of the relationship between India and the US. Sandhu, who retires at the end of the month after 35 years of service, urged the diaspora to play a vital role in strengthening the partnership. He encouraged the Indian American community to ensure that the second generation remains connected to India by traveling frequently.
Sandhu highlighted the significance of the Indo-US relationship not only for the two countries but also for global welfare. He urged Indian Americans to actively engage in promoting ties between India and the US, emphasizing the potential for growth in various sectors such as affordable healthcare, energy, technology, startups, innovation, and emerging technologies.
Addressing concerns about the security of children traveling to India, Sandhu assured the diaspora that the embassy and consulates would provide support, making the experience foolproof. He stressed that familiarity with India could be advantageous for the second generation, as they might be sought after by international companies moving into India.
During his tenure as ambassador, Sandhu played a key role in opening the Indian Consulate in Seattle and announced plans for two more consulates in the US. He acknowledged the vital role of the Indian American community, emphasizing their ability to influence and contribute to bilateral relations.
The virtual farewell reception saw Indian Americans applauding Sandhu's leadership and contributions to strengthening India-US ties during his tenure. The ambassador's diplomatic efforts and dedication to fostering international harmony were recognized and praised by members of the diaspora. Sandhu's strategic vision and impact across various domains, including trade relations, defense partnerships, educational exchanges, and Quad partnerships, were acknowledged during the farewell event.
