India reiterates 2-state solution to Israel-Palestine conflict at UN

Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla chaired a UNSC meeting on Monday calling on all parties in Israel-Palestine conflict to respect the ceasefire agreement and refrain from acts that could poentially worsen the security situation.

Shringla chaired a total of four meetings a day before India’s presidency term of the council ended. New Delhi successfully steered discussions during its presidency over sensitive matters on Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, and the Middle-east peace progress.

As it had done in the past, India once again reiterated the same stance of a peace-process with 2 state solutions when it came to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

New Delhi emphasized the long-standing and firm commitment" to the establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable state of Palestine. Meanwhile, it also said that both the countries deserve to live side by side with peace and security.

Shringla further said that the recent escalation in Gaza Strip has been undermining the ceasefire agreement and has triggered escalation.

"We're concerned by the recent escalation in the Gaza Strip, which once again underscores the fragility of ceasefire and urgent need for addressing the underlying causes that have triggered the escalation," said Shringla.

The Foreign Secretary also addressed that the direct peace negotiations will hugely benefit both sides and will help in achieving a “two-state” solution.

"I reaffirm India’s call for regular & predictable transfer of aid & other essential items to Gaza to ease humanitarian situation & facilitate early reconstruction, as well as for appropriate use of such aid," he added.

Shringla emphasized the importance of Israeli work permits that would be offered to Palestinians in order to strengthen cooperation between both countries.
