In a firm rebuttal to a protest staged by Pakistan near the Indian Embassy in Lisbon, the Indian diplomatic mission in Portugal reaffirmed New Delhi’s unyielding stance against what it described as "desperate provocations" and emphasized its continued determination to combat terrorism supported by Pakistan.
"The Embassy of India countered strongly with 'Operation Sindoor' to the dastardly protest arranged by Pakistan in front of our Chancery building. We thank the Government of Portugal and the police authorities for the assistance provided in the safety and security of the Embassy. India will not be deterred by such desperate attempts. Our determination stands firm," is a post on X by the Embassy.
India's envoy to Portugal, Puneet Roy Kundal, also spoke about the issue on X, emphasizing the determination behind the diplomatic mission's response.
"Outside the Embassy, Pakistan-organized protests were responded to by a silent but firm and determined message from us: 'Operation Sindoor is not yet over'. All of the Embassy officials remained firm in this stance," he tweeted.
The mention of "Operation Sindoor" is a direct reference to India's military response following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam which killed 26 people. Indian troops launched pinpoint attacks on terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied territory across the Line of Control.
With the mention of Operation Sindoor in Portugal, India is reaffirming its global message—letting it be known that efforts at intimidation, if either by outright violence or stage-managed protests overseas, will not be accepted.
Indian diplomats have reaffirmed that their missions across the globe are steadfast in guarding the country's honor and ready to tackle provocations head-on. Portuguese police worked together with Indian officials during the protest to keep security at a high level and avoid any unrest.
The Lisbon message summarizes India's overall diplomatic philosophy—synthesizing bold military response with decisive, unambiguous dialogue in the global arena.
