The remarks, delivered by External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, came in response to reports of Indians employed in support roles within the Russian military operations in the conflict zones.
Acknowledging the presence of a small number of Indian citizens undertaking support duties with the Russian army, Jaiswal stated, "We are cognizant that a handful of Indian nationals have enlisted for support roles with the Russian army."
He underscored that the Indian embassy in Moscow has consistently pursued this issue with the relevant Russian authorities to secure their timely "discharge".
"We strongly urge all Indian nationals to exercise caution and refrain from involvement in this conflict," he added.
Media accounts suggest that numerous Indians have been engaged as security aides in the Russian military, facing compulsion to engage in combat alongside Russian troops in specific regions along the Russia-Ukraine border.
Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), implored the Ministry of External Affairs to rescue these Indian nationals.
"Sir @DrSJaishankar, kindly utilize your diplomatic channels to repatriate these individuals. Their safety is jeopardized, and their families are rightfully anxious," Owaisi tweeted on X, expressing concern on Wednesday.
