The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Wednesday that they have surrounded the house of Hamas senior leader Yahya Sinwar in the Khan Younis area of Gaza. However, Sinwar is reported to have gone into hiding, according to a statement from a high-ranking IDF officer.
The IDF alleges that Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif, both top leaders of Hamas, are believed to have orchestrated the attacks on southern Israel that occurred on October 7.
The IDF officer informed IANS (Indo-Asian News Service) that Sinwar is suspected to have taken refuge in the extensive tunnel network controlled by Hamas in southern Gaza.
Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has declared that the IDF will intensify efforts to locate Sinwar.
The IDF further claims that numerous middle-ranking Hamas leaders have been killed during Israel's ground offensive in Gaza. The conflict, which began with the October 7 attacks, has resulted in casualties on both sides, with over 15,000 Palestinians, primarily children and women, reported dead, and 1,400 Israelis killed by Hamas, as per the IDF's statement. The situation remains tense as the search for Yahya Sinwar continues.
