Harris to Deliver Closing Remarks in Washington as Trump Speaks in New York

Harris has selected the Ellipse, an oval field on the grounds of the US Capitol where the US Congress resides, as a pointed reminder of the rally Trump held there on January 6, 2021. That day, his supporters marched from the rally toward the Capitol, intending to interfere with the joint session of Congress that had been tasked with certifying Joe Biden's 2020 presidential victory.

Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Washington DC's Ellipse to deliver her final speech on Tuesday, and former President Donald Trump has selected New York, his former hometown, to close his campaign.

The media guidance for the campaign declared, "On Tuesday, October 29, with just one week until election day, Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver a major closing argument address in Washington on the Ellipse." Through this venue, Harris will drive home one of the central themes of her campaign: that Trump poses an existential threat to democracy and the Constitution. She's called him a "fascist" recently during a CNN-hosted town hall.

They are saying I am a threat to democracy," Trump commented. "They'd be saying that because it would be the standard line - just keep saying that over and over again and know well that that can send off assassins or possible assassins. That is horrific … Perhaps that is one of those bullets from this rhetoric."

The president's last campaign event Sunday will center on the economy and immigration, his key issues. His venue is Madison Square Garden, one of New York City's most prestigious venues, where the stadium has hosted a range of events, from major sports and concerts to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in 2014.

This defining event, in the president's home town, will be a testament to the historic political movement that President Trump has built in the last days of the campaign," the Trump campaign said in a statement on Friday.

Born in New York City, Trump grew up there until he relocated to Washington, DC, after his successful election in 2016. Since leaving the White House in January 2021, he has operated from his Mar-a-Lago club resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
