Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reported to be safe following a shooting near his golf course in Florida.
The details surrounding the incident are still very sketchy, and the gunman responsible still unknown and on the run.
"Former President Trump is safe after gunshots occurred nearby. No other information available right now," Steven Cheung, Communications Director for Trump's campaign, said in a statement Sunday.
The White House says that President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris, who are in Washington, D.C., have been informed about the incident.
"The President and Vice-President have been briefed about the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was golfing. They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept regularly updated by their team," the statement read.
According to reports, the shooting happened within a mile radius of Trump's golf course in Palm Beach.
CNN states shots were fired from a wooded area toward the outside perimeter of the course while former president Trump was present. Secret Service agents quickly returned fire in the direction of gunshots.
A firearm has been taken from the scene, but the shooter remains at large.
In the case of a previous event that happened in July, former US President Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a rally for the election campaign at Pennsylvania; he was grazed by a bullet to the right ear. The attacker was shot dead.
