Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, presided over the funeral prayers for Brigadier General Sayyed Razi Mousavi on Thursday, according to media reports. During the ceremony at Iraq's revered Shi’ite shrine in Najaf, mourners reportedly chanted slogans expressing animosity towards the United States and Israel.

The Supreme Leader honored the late Brig Gen Mousavi for his unwavering dedication and urged his alignment with the defenders of Islam, as per Iranian media accounts. Brig Gen Mousavi lost his life in an airstrike near Damascus, Syria, where he played a significant role as a high-ranking officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), overseeing Iran's military operations in the region.

In response to the incident, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi condemned Israel, vowing that it would face severe consequences for the killing of Brig Gen Razi Mousavi. Israel, on the other hand, has accused Mousavi of coordinating the supply of arms and materials to Hezbollah.

Amidst rising tensions, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian issued a statement suggesting that Tel Aviv is entering a challenging period. The ongoing accusations between Iran and Israel underscore the broader regional complexities, with both sides pointing fingers at each other for supporting militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah in their conflicts.
