Four Inmates Among Eight Fatalities in Russia Prison Hostage Crisis

On Friday, the four prisoners seized eight prison staff members and four fellow inmates as hostages. Reports from Xinhua news agency, citing the FSIN, indicate that all four of the held convicts sustained injuries.

Four staff members at the maximum-security IK-19 prison in the Volgograd region lost their lives after being taken hostage by four inmates, according to a statement from the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN). The inmates responsible were later neutralized during a special operation.

The attackers inflicted various degrees of stab wounds on four employees, resulting in the deaths of three. The remaining employees who resisted were hospitalized, with one also succumbing to their injuries.

The federal prison staff, along with the Russian National Guard, successfully carried out a special operation to eliminate the four perpetrators.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into the incident.
