Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged for unified action among Islamic nations in response to the ongoing Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip. Erdogan conveyed this message during his address at the fifth General Assembly of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum in Istanbul, delivered via video message, according to a report by Xinhua news agency.
Erdogan emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to rally Islamic nations against what he described as "Israeli aggression" in Gaza. He also stressed Turkey's ongoing endeavors to ensure that alleged "crimes against humanity" and "war crimes" committed by Israel receive due attention on the global stage.
Furthermore, Erdogan reiterated Turkey's steadfast support for the establishment of an independent and internationally recognized Palestinian state. He underscored Turkey's commitment to advocating for a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital.
The recent escalation in violence stemmed from a surprise attack launched by Hamas militants on southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,200 individuals on October 7, 2023. In response, Israel initiated a significant military campaign against Hamas-controlled Gaza.
As per the Hamas-run Health Ministry, the death toll among Palestinians in Gaza due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes has reached 27,947 as of the latest update.
