EAM Jaishankar to Attend Trump's Swearing-In Ceremony on January 20

​​​​​​​The MEA said, "On the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar will attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America."

According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump in Washington on January 20.

The MEA said, "On the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar will attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America."

The ministry said Jaishankar will hold discussions with leaders of the next administration and other officials during the visit.
On January 20, Donald Trump will be taking the presidential oath of office at noon with Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administering it on the US Capitol steps in Washington. Immediately before that, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance will also take the oath.

Last month, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) announced "Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise" as the theme for the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. The theme pays tribute to the Founding Fathers' commitment to preserving democracy for future generations.

During the inauguration, flags of the United States will be flown at half-staff as former President Jimmy Carter passed away at 100 years old. President Joe Biden ordered the flags to remain lowered for 30 days, ending by sunset on January 28.

The United States Congress certified President Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election as early as January 6th, paving way for his welcome back to the White House. The certification affirmed the results of November's election to the Electoral College.

The certification proceedings in Congress conducted by Vice President Kamala Harris, who represented the biggest electoral opponent of Mr. Trump for the presidency were short and scantily covered.

The swearing-in ceremony marks Trump's return to the Oval Office as he begins his second term as President of the United States.
