India Wednesday asked for "restraint by all concerned" even as it reiterated its "deep concern" at the deterioration of the security situation in the West Asia region.
We are deeply concerned at the escalation of security situation in West Asia and reiterate our call for restraint by all concerned and protection of civilians," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday, following Iran's attack on Israel on Tuesday night.
The statement, however, did not mention a name of any country but expressed concern at the escalating situation across the Middle East.
It is important that the issue doesn't become a regional one and we hope that all the issues are addressed through dialogue and diplomacy, it furthered.
Last week, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar had a discussion with the Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghch on present geopolitical situation surrounding the region during the BRICS meet that was attended on the sidelines of UNGA in New York.
The MEA earlier in the day issued a travel advisory to Indian citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran due to the current crisis.
"We are closely monitoring the recent escalation in the security situation in the region," the MEA travel advisory said while adding that "Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran".
It warned Indians already in Iran to be alert and in regular touch with the Indian Embassy at Tehran.
The travel advisory was issued hours after Iran fired its rocket salvo of around 200 at Israel on Tuesday night.
The Iranian government said on Wednesday that it had targeted the military and security establishments of Israel during Tuesday's attacks.
This measure was taken to defend the interest and populace of Iran. Tell Netanyahu that Iran is not an aggressive country; it will not tolerate a threat in any way. This is just one corner of our power. Do not get yourself involved with Iran," Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian publicly cautioned after the missile attack.
With Israel also promising to revenge, the situation is likely to take extremely tense in the region.
