Toronto witnessed a strong protest Wednesday as members of the Canadian Hindu community protested outside the Bangladeshi Consulate, calling for an end to the continuing atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.
The protest, organized by Canadian Hindu Volunteers, brought together people from different walks of life who united to call for international intervention against what they termed a "systematic campaign of genocide" against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh.
The protesters accused the current Bangladeshi government led by controversial Islamist figure Muhammad Yunus of orchestrating widespread violence and discrimination against Hindus.
Participants pointed to temple desecration and destruction; the mass murder of priests, and arrest and imprisonment of community leaders. They said that Hindu professionals are being slowly removed from their jobs while their families are plundered and women suffered unspeakable sexual violence: all these, they said as part of an orchestrated effort to "eradicate" Hindu culture, faith, and identity from Bangladesh.
The social media handle, X of Canadian Hindu Volunteers wrote that the deafening silence of the international community is deafening, "This is not just a crisis, it is an organized and deliberate assault on human rights and religious freedom. The global community must act now before it is too late," the post said.
Organizers emphasized the urgent need for action, urging Canadians to pressure their elected officials to raise the issue in Parliament and demand diplomatic measures against the Bangladeshi regime. They called for Canada to lead by example, imposing sanctions and leveraging its global influence to hold the perpetrators accountable.
The protesters also made a passionate appeal for justice, arguing that silence is complicity. "This isn't just about the Hindu community in Bangladesh; it's about standing up for the values of human dignity and freedom everywhere," the page 'Canadian Hindu Volunteers' said in a post on X.
We, Canadian Hindus, urge the world to act in unison. Silence is a form of complicity, and inaction is an enabler for these criminals. We encourage all Canadians to join this cause by writing to their elected officials, asking them to table this issue in Parliament, and demanding action. Canada must take its stand by calling the Bangladeshi regime to accountability through diplomatic pressure and sanctions," Canadian Hindu Volunteers, post on X.
