President Joe Biden has demanded that the industrial base of NATO be hardened during the summit in Washington DC, as 75 years have passed since the alliance's formation. He referred to concerns over Russia increasing its own domestic output of defense goods with the help of China, Iran, and North Korea. The recent Russian actions were reminiscent of historical conflicts and touted the alliance as underwriting prosperity for its member nations.
Biden sought to reassure the allies on his commitment to governance in the backdrop of doubts over his possible second term, saying NATO would provide the security shield. He remembered all decisions taken at the earlier summit to modernize defense capabilities, recognizing new challenges facing the alliance.
"Russia is ramping up its wartime production," Biden said, citing an increase in weapons and vehicles production. "And with backing from China, North Korea, and Iran, they present a serious challenge. It's essential that NATO stays ahead."
He reaffirmed the commitment of every member to reinforce domestic defense and did not fail to emphasize innovation and competitiveness in such areas. "As an alliance, we must reinforce and accelerate production of critical defense equipment to meet future demands," Biden stressed.
