President Joe Biden has affirmed the United States' commitment to holding Hezbollah accountable for the tragic incident that resulted in the death of three US military personnel and the injury of 34 others in a drone attack along the Jordanian-Syrian border. Reports indicate that the attack occurred at a US base in the region and marked the first instance of US troops being killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since October 7 when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel.
During a statement, President Biden assured, "Have no doubt, we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner (of) our choosing." The identities of the deceased service members will be withheld until 24 hours after their families have been notified, as stated by the US Central Command.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted, with President Biden expressing his belief that the attack was carried out by Hezbollah operating in Syria and Iraq. He paid tribute to the fallen military personnel, describing them as patriots, and emphasized the nation's collective grief.
While campaigning in Columbia, South Carolina, President Biden addressed the situation at Brookland Baptist Church, stating, "We lost three brave souls in an attack on one of our bases." After observing a moment of silence, he affirmed, "And we shall respond." The US Central Command initially reported 25 injured individuals, later revising the number to 34. Notably, eight of the injured have been transferred from Jordan for a higher level of medical care.
As the investigation unfolds, President Biden remains resolute in the nation's commitment to combat terrorism and seek justice for the fallen military personnel.
