Beijing vows to respond after Washington imposes Sanctions on Xinjiang

China on Friday said that the country is determined to take all the possible measures to safeguard its institutions and enterprises after the US Senate passed a new law forbidding imports from the Xinjiang region of China unless businesses can prove they were produced without forced labor. The law is in the form of a penalty to China, over it's alleged human rights abuse of religious and ethnic minorities in Xinjiang region.

1. The US Senate has passed a new law that restricts imports from Xinjiang, China until and unless businesses can prove they were produced without forced labor. President Joe Biden is expected to sign the law after overcoming backlash from the White House.

2. In stark reaction, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said, "China strongly deplores and rejects that and urges the US to immediately correct its mistake. China will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese institutions and enterprises."

3. The new law passed in the US, is on the ground of China's alleged systemic and widespread abuse of ethnic and religious minorities in Xinjiang's predominantly Muslim Uyghurs.

4. According to media reports, numerous independent investigations have found forced sterilization and large detention camps where many Uyghurs allegedly are forced to work in factories. However, China has rejected all such claims and termed it as 'the lie of the century.'

5. China has expressed that it will take all the necessary actions to counter the United States' move, but has not made it clear what all the necessary steps would be.
