Attack on Army Checkpost Claims Lives of 23 Pakistani Soldiers

Tragedy struck on Tuesday as a checkpost in Dera Ismail Khan's Daraban area witnessed a brutal attack, resulting in the loss of 23 lives among Pakistan Army soldiers. According to Pakistani media outlet Dawn, six terrorists orchestrated the assault during the early hours of December 12, as reported by the military's media affairs wing.

The security post bravely thwarted the initial attempt of intrusion, prompting the terrorists to resort to a destructive tactic. They rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the post, followed by a suicide bombing attack. The subsequent explosions caused the building to collapse, leading to multiple casualties. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated, "23 brave soldiers embraced shahadat, while all six terrorists were effectively engaged and sent to hell."

Claiming responsibility for this horrific act, Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan, a newly identified group affiliated with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), surfaced as the orchestrator of the attack.

This incident marks the military's highest single-day death toll from terrorist attacks reported this year. Earlier in July, separate military operations in the Zhob and Sui areas of Balochistan resulted in the martyrdom of 12 soldiers, as per the media report.

Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti expressed condemnation and deep sorrow over the "terrorist attack on the police station" in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the gravity of the situation and the profound impact on the affected community.
