Their captain Virgil van Dijk will play out the final year of his four-year contract with the Premier League outfit that he penned back in 2021. But on his future, the defender seems "very calm."
In his six years at Liverpool, he has gained a large amount of silverware, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
"I'm very calm. I want to play the best season I can, again. I want to be important and stay important for the club this year," Van Dijk told Sky Sports.
Liverpool bought Van Dijk for £75 million in January 2018, a record transfer fee for a defender at the time. He soon established himself and was considered one of the top defenders of the league. But in the ongoing 2020/21 season, he has sustained a damage to his cruciate ligament and is still out of action after 254 days.
When his time at Southampton is combined with his tenure at Liverpool, he played 266 games in the Premier League, winning 166 of those. He additionally has kept clean sheets in 106 of those.
Also tied to the same boat are Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold as they are both in the final year of their contracts, too, just like Van Dijk. In such case maybe the ones who are in queue to play their final season under a new head coach.
"What happens next year, we'll see. Whatever will happen, it was meant to be, that's the way I see it. There's been no changes in my situation but I'm very calm about it, there's no reason for me to sit down and start thinking about something else because I have the whole season to play. Hopefully, it'll be a successful one," he added.
